Why does it take so freaking long to delete files in Vista

Vista is killing my productivity. You would think the latest greatest version of Windows could handle basic file system stuff easily.

Why am I having to wait 30 minutes and its still not done deleting this folder?

I need my computer to do what I tell it, do it now and don't keep me waiting. Is that too much to expect?

So far I've practiced a couple of songs on the guitar waiting, you know making lemonaide from lemons, but jeez, I have work to do and I find myself constantly complaining at my computer because it can't seem to do simple things quickly. SP1 better fix this crap and it better come soon. I wouldn't be blogging this but I'm still waiting 30 minutes since I told it to delete these files. It still hasn't finished. I think I'm going to have to click the cancel button. Almost afraid how long cancelling will take.

Oh crap, clicking cancel doesn't bring relief either.

Totally freaking ridiculous!

I better finish this post, looks like its going to take a hard reboot to get back to work.

Man, I know exactly what you're talking about.  That's just one of the reasons I finally gave up and went back to XP.  My experience with file management under Vista is full of very frustrating episodes like this.

This article seems to explain why. It sounds like Microsoft had a very fragmented development process for Vista.

After a few days of Vista on my new laptop, I switched over to Ubuntu. Now I'm really glad I did.

The question that must be asked is: Why are you running Vista in the first place? Ubuntu Linux or Windows XP must be a much better choice?

My new computer came with Vista, and I had the same complaints.   Vista sure is 'pretty' but with 2 gigs of memory on a 3.2ghz dual core P4 it ran slower than some of the P2's running w2k with 256megs of memory in my office.

I was forced to upgrade to XP to be productive at work!
