Imeem Social Playlist Sharing - Mix Tapes for the Web 2.0 Generation

I had not looked at Imeem.com in quite while, once upon a time it was mostly about groups and the convenience of a chat client that worked across services. Now its something totally cooler. You can create playlists and share them not only on the imeem site but on other social networking sites like Facebook or even embed them into your own site.

Wicked Cool!

Yahoo Media Player - Sweet and Easy

I first read about Yahoo Media Player a month or so back and I bookmarked it with the intention of using it on my site. I don't know why I waited, I must have just been too busy or absorbed in other things I was working on. I mean its a 2 minute job to integrate it, you just add a script to your page or in my case to the layout.master file in my mojoPortal skin like this:

<script type="text/javascript" src="http://mediaplayer.yahoo.com/js"></script>

and thats all there is to it. Any page that has links to mp3 files now autmatically have little play buttons next to them.

Yahoo Media Player automatically adds play buttons

Click the image above or visit this link to see it on my site: http://www.joeaudette.com/therealitysaladband.aspx

If you click a play button the player comes up at the bottom of the screen and has a playlist of all the mp3s linked on the page.

Pretty cool and so easy a caveman could do it.

I'll be playing a couple of songs at the Find Your Muse Open Mike at The Evening Muse in Charlotte tonight.

I've recently setup a new MySpace page for my acoustic blues music.

Tomorrow night I'm going to try and make it out to the Enterprise Developers Guild (which is the local .NET user group) meeting. The topic is XNA game development which might be interesting to learn a little about.

If you're in the area stop by, the show starts at 8pm and I'll probably go on pretty early in the show.

I was gonna be a rock star once upon a time

Someone pointed out to me recently that the music links are broken on this site. I was serving some videos and mp3s from a computer at my house but I had a hard drive failure and had forgotten that those files were served from there.

I've uploaded the mp3s and fixed the links for my once locally popular Reality Salad Band. In my 20s I had a dream of making it in music, while I never did make it big I think I made some pretty good music.

In more recent years I still play out now and then as a hobby doing solo acoustic blues shows but unfortunately the videos I had on my Blind Joe Love page were also on that drive. I may have them somewhere backed up on CDs but I'm going to have to dig to find them.

Hopefully my dream of being an open source software entrepreneur will be more successful than my dream of becoming a music star

mp3Tunes.com, I signed up

I signed up for a locker at mp3Tunes this weekend and so far I am very impressed.

My iPod had freaked out last week. It lost track of all its music and then the Mac didn't even recognize it as an iPod. I was able to get it going again using the Updater Utility but I had to restore it to original to fix it so it lost all of its music and could only get it back by re-syncing which took a long time for my nearly 40 gig music library.

So having my large music library backed up out in the cloud and available to me on any internet connected device for about $40 a year seems like a great deal to me. It looks like it will take about 10 days to get it all uploaded. Wonder if that will raise any red flags with my isp, we'll see...

But I can't wait to get it all uploaded. It will be nice no matter where I am or which machine or operating system I'm on to have my music available.

I hope its going to be around a while, its another Michael Robertson (of mp3.com back in the bubble, and more recently Linspire fame) site.

You might think they would use file signatures to not duplicate a million copies of thriller but it seems in fact that they upload every file and it is my private locker with nothing shared accross users. At least thats my impression.

Its been a long time...

Its been over a year since I've played a live music show but I've got a Blind Joe Love blues gig coming up Saturday, October 1st opening up for Fluid Ounces at The Boro Bar & Grill, 1211 Greenland Dr, Murfreesboro, TN

Anyone in the area, hope you can make it. I'll be playing old time acoustic blues in the styles of Robert Johnson, Mississippi Fred McDowell, Big Bill Broonzy and Blind Boy Fuller

iPod is awesome!

I got my first iPod on friday. Its a new 4th generation 40gig model. What an awesome thing to be able to carry your entire music collection and some audio books in the palm of your hand and I have a fairly large music collection. Actually I don't yet have my entire collection loaded, I'm in the process of ripping all my CDs into iTunes which is fairly slow on my mac. So far I've got just shy of 10 gigs loaded but it does look like I will be able to fit most if not all of my collection in my iPod. I also ordered a car kit for it so I can play the iPod through my car stereo. This makes CD changers obsolete in my opinion. I love the click wheel too, it makes finding what you are looking for very easy and intuitive.

So as you can imagine I've been spending most of the weekend ripping CDs, but I did manage to squeeze out a new release for mojoPortal with a few bug fixes and some major improvements to the administrative features.
